Everest is 8850m high and is pretty much smack bang on the border of Nepal and Tibet, though most of the mountain is in Nepal. It's also much easier (because of permits etc) for mountaineers to climb from the Nepalese side.

Actually, yes I have been to Everest! I was there almost 1 year ago, it is the most fantastic feeling, a once in a lifetime opportunity. I didn't climb, but went as far as base camp on the Tibetan side. If travelling from Lhasa (capital of Tibet) you get your first views about 8 hours or so before you actually arrive. You never forget seeing Everest for the first time. My heart leapt and I was almost in tears (given it was a really tough trip and I was sick most of the time!). I also saw the sunset at Base Camp that night and actually camped there. I could keep going, but you get the idea that it's really special!
